Visionet Systems Announces the Availability of Tools to Convert Adabas Natural Applications to .NET/SQL Server Technologies
Cranbury, NJ. June 10, 2009 –Visionet Systems Inc., a technology consultancy that provides innovative legacy migration services, today announces the availability of two new tools to convert legacy Adabas/Natural applications to three tier .Net/SQL architecture. The two tools being introduced are: VisiCodeMiner, which is specifically designed to harvest the logic out of Natural code, and VisiMigrate, which helps with the code and data conversion. Building their first legacy conversion for RPG and AS/400 conversion back in 1995, Visionet has 14 years of experience with legacy migrations.
Visionet has built these tools over the last couple of years while performing a number of large Natural conversions. Visionet found that the cost of conversion using traditional vendors was around $2 a line, and conversion at that price lacked ROI. They also discovered that, regardless of the claims, 100% automated conversions are simply not possible when converting a classical legacy application to an N-Tier platform. Therefore, Visionet focused on a Natural to .NET specific toolset instead of developing a general purpose multi language engine.
VisiCodeMiner uses the following 3 step process to gather and generate the information required:
- The source code is parsed to generate abstract code information
- The code information is then passed through the CodeMiner analyzer engine to create comprehension graphs. These graphs are then represented in graphical form and data saved for future reference.
- The tool breaks the code into segments for a manageable and systematic conversion
VisiMigrate’s features that assist in data conversion from Adabas to SQL Server include:
- A template-based data migration tool that eliminates the need to develop complex migration apps.
- Fast and efficient data migration with built-in logging and verification to ensure that data was migrated correctly.
- Special handling for Adabas group and multi-value fields.
